The Shiregreen Cake Off

Shiregreen Cake OffOn the 20th February Friends of Firth Park Academy in conjunction with Debra’s Cakes a local cake decorating business, held their first Cake Auction at the school. It was decided that all money raised would go towards the charity PACT, a charity that helps families of children with cancer. This charity was very close to home, as one of the members Melissa Lightfoot’s daughter Shannon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia March 2010. Thankfully, Shannon has now been in remission for almost two years. Melissa has said that the charity PACT was a tremendous help for her and her family

It was a truly amazing night. Twelve cake decorators from around Shiregreen came along and brought their cakes, cakes that they’d spent a lot of time and effort over. Many of the cake decorators who brought cakes are past students of cake decorating courses held in Firth Park Academy. Lots of people turned up to bid on the amazing cakes and in the end we raised £350.00.

On the following Wednesday Melissa and Shannon handed over the money to Beryl Welburn at PACT office, which is based in the Children’s Hospital.
